We need your help to top up the Geraldine Fund so that we can continue to provide urgent financial support to our most needy patients at The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead.
Geraldine was an inspirational young wife and Mum whose story touched the hearts of our staff members who banded together to organise a short holiday for Geraldine and her family who had never before been to the beach in their young lives. The Geraldine Fund was set up in her memory and continues to this day to help families affected by cancer.
Just over the past year our cancer social work team have brought to our attention the plight of many such families who are struggling with the diagnosis of cancer and the emotional and financial burdens that come along with such an illness. Among those we were able to help was a young mother struggling on her own with a diagnosis of metastatic cancer and a daughter at school and with no family support. She was moved to tears when she received the news that the Geraldine Fund would purchase a new washing machine for her and a printer for her daughter which meant she didn’t have to use the local laundromat anymore and no longer needed to transport her daughter to the library each time she needed something printed for school. Small things to some but a big thing for her which lightened the load just that little bit. For another family paying the rent for a week eased the financial burden just that little bit and they were able to focus on other more important things.
This time of the year serves as a reminder to us all to help those less fortunate than ourselves and we ask you to give generously to this cause knowing that your donation makes a direct difference to a struggling family.
